Prez Sez

Welcome to Spring. As I write this on the first of March, the temperature is 32 degrees and headed downward…again! I am a little skeptical that Spring has arrived, however, Pothole Season certainly is here. As always, that causes me to have the pucker-up and hold-my-breath factor when I drive some of the wonderful central Indiana highways and local streets around Indy.

I want to thank everyone who attended the Central Indiana Region annual meeting in January at Tom Wood Porsche. We had almost eighty members of the club and dealership staff attend the event. The food, drink and door prizes were truly amazing. Great job by everyone who planned and executed the activity especially, Will Anthony and Don Perkins, for their hard work. Also, a special thank you to our club sponsors who donated all the fabulous door prizes that were passed out that evening and of course a big thank you to Tom Wood Porsche for use of the facility.

Club leadership is looking to expand the Board of Directors. The board would like to grow the number of at-large directorships a bit to help with club activities and event planning. Please reach out to members of the board if you are interested in getting involved. It is not hard and really is fun.

Also, the two-year cycle for the board of directors elected executive positions will be up at the end of this year. Please think about getting more involved in club leadership. I will talk more about this in the next newsletter. Voting will occur in the fourth quarter of this year for terms starting in January ’26.

As mentioned last month, the website is on life support as work continues on improving our online experience and migrating to a new service provider. Changes should be made and implemented by the time of my next letter in the July CIRcular.

Buckle up as it is time for sports car driving season to begin in earnest for 2025. The number of activities scheduled by the club is truly amazing. Too many activities to mention here on an individual basis, so be sure to check out the club calendar webpage for the schedule. Starting in April there are events almost every weekend throughout the Central Indiana Region and with neighboring PCA regions. There is no excuse not join in CIR events with your club!

Enough ramblings, get out and enjoy the upcoming driving season. Until next time.

All the Best,

Mike Kelley

“An Evening with Paul Page, Voice of the Indianapolis 500”

As Race Month arrives in Indy, join us on May 15, 2022, as CIR-PCA spends “An Evening with Paul Page, Voice of the Indianapolis 500”

Paul’s broadcasting career began in local radio, but it hit the accelerator when he moved to WIBC 1070AM in 1968. There, he met the original host of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network, the legendary Sid Collins, who recruited Paul to join his venerable radio team for the Memorial Day classic.

Paul was mentored by Collins, who asked him to join the Indy 500 radio network in 1974. Paul’s rock-solid reporting earned Collins’ respect, making Paul his chosen successor. Paul anchored the Indy 500 radio broadcast from 1977 to 1987.

Based on the quality of his work, Paul was tabbed by ABC Sports to anchor all their Indy car series telecasts starting in late 1987.

It was here, Page’s indelible mark on Indy 500 history was made. Joined by former Indy car veterans Bobby Unser and Sam Posey, the ABC Indy broadcasts became Emmy Award winners as well as fan favorites.

Beyond Indy car racing, Paul’s career has spanned other forms of motorsports, as well, including NASCAR, IROC, NHRA, and others. He was a regular fixture on NBC and ESPN over the years, covering everything from the America’s Cup to the Fourth of July Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

Don’t miss this great night of Indy 500 nostalgia and storytelling by this Hoosier broadcasting legend!

“An Evening with Paul Page, Voice of the Indianapolis 500 presented by SONAX”, May 15, 2022, 7:00pm, at the Westfield Playhouse, 220 North Union Street, Westfield, IN 46074.
