This year we are going upscale with our dinner Saturday evening at the fabulous Chart House Restaurant in Newport, Kentucky and we are going back to the “History in Bloom” event at Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum in Cincinnati on Sunday!

A block of 15 Deluxe King Bed Waterview rooms have been held at the spectacular Cincinnati Marriott at RiverCenter in Covington, Kentucky that include a really nice Sunday Buffet Breakfast for two in their 10 West Restaurant with amazing views of the Ohio River, downtown Cincinnati skyline and historic John S. If you have never been to a Chart House Restaurant, don’t miss this chance!  They are normally only located in resort areas and are famous for their fresh seafood, steaks and premier service.  We will have a private dining area with wonderful views of the Ohio River and Mt. Adams.

Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum’s “History in Bloom”

What is “History in Bloom” you ask?  Once a year in the spring, Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum (2nd largest cemetery in US) has a special event where docent guides dress up as some of the more famous “residents” of their historic 150 yr. old cemetery.  Carriage rides are offered and it is all free plus our auto route through the hilly and winding roads of colorful flowering trees is not to be missed and they only do it on this day!  Spring Grove is one of the most beautiful cemeteries/arboretums you will ever visit!

The weekend starts off with an optional 11 am Lunch at the very charming Kopper Kettle Inn in Morristown (19 miles or 30 minutes east of I-465 via US 52 East) – famous for iron skillet fried chicken and their $11 Saturday Lunch Special is chicken salad that includes a glass of champagne!  Registration opens at noon at the Inn and the required Driver’s Meeting is there at 12:30 with first car out at 1 pm.  Three plus hours of some of the best sports car roads and historic German towns in southeastern Indiana ends with check-in at the Marriott after 4 pm and dinner at the Chart House in Newport, KY at 6:30 pm.

Sunday starts with the hotel-included 9 am Sunday Buffet Brunch with checkout at 11 am, Sunday Driver’s Meeting at noon with Sunday Auto Tour to Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum for their annual “History in Bloom” event.  After Spring Grove, we venture down to Taft’s Ale House for a late lunch at 2 pm in this amazing old German church in the Over-the-Rhine Historic District that has been converted into a brewpub with great beers and food (try the tri-tip steak!).  We should all be done on Sunday by 3:30 pm with only a 90 minute (90 miles) drive back to I-465 and Indy.

We hope to see everyone in Cincinnati for a great weekend!  Weather is looking much better in Cincinnati this weekend with partly cloudy skies both days and highs in the mid 60’s and no rain!  Last Sunday all the trees and flowers at Spring Grove were in bloom and nearing their peak!  Come down for either Saturday or Sunday.  So far we have 27 members registered (Snider’s, Trout’s, Fike’s, Faunce’s and Brissing’s on our old website and Steve Head & Mary McConnell, Mike & Janet Downs, George Halleck & Sharon Stewart, Jim & Karin Scarbrough, Wilson Hopkins, Kevin Walter & Erin Harper, John & Amy Cochlin, Brian & Rebecca Pinto and Jackie Jurrema registered here on our new website with Ed & Donna Olberding pending) and we have 10 hotel rooms (20 persons) booked at the Marriott.  We are trying to get the Attendees List to show on this new website and struggling with the PayPal payment option.  We are still learning the many new aspects of this new website, so bear with us until we get it all figured out.  You can always pay at the start, but we need a firm head count for the many restaurants, so please go ahead and register, so we know you are coming (I get an email when you register).
