INDIANAPOLIS – APRIL 17, 2020 – The Central Indiana Region of the Porsche Club of America (CIR-PCA) board of directors voted to donate $1000.00 to each of five foodbanks in the central Indiana area.
The club has a long history of giving; with well over $100,000 committed to philanthropic causes in just the last ten years. The CIR-PCA board met this week, in an emergency session to discuss the current crisis for the needy in our State. Indiana is facing record unemployment.
Club president, Rob Fike said, “As we continue to navigate through these unprecedented times, things are constantly changing as you know. While some of us are only mildly affected by the epidemic, many of our Hoosier brothers and sisters, are horribly affected. Either by contracting the virus itself, or by the financial devastation it is producing by the lockdown and job loss. People that never, ever, expected to have problems feeding their families, now find themselves in dire straits.”
“By our donations, we feel that this just again reinforces the fact that our Porsche family is made up of the best people anywhere! We will get through this together. Remember, it’s not just the cars, it’s the people,” said Fike.
The recipients of this first round of food-bank donations will be:
- Indianapolis- Gleeners Food Bank
- Lafayette- Food Finders Food Bank
- Muncie- Second Harvest Food Bank
- Fort Wayne- Community Harvest Food Bank
- Bloomington- Hoosier Hills Food Bank
The CIR-PCA board will continue to assess the needs of our communities as we work through the virus pandemic issues.

In just a couple of days we will be enjoying our Annual Dinner and Gift exchange. Since we had to cancel last year, I know I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone. I’m hoping everyone made the “nice” list this year for Christmas too! As this is my last Pres Sez, I want to use my space to praise the wonderful people who made up the board of 2020/2021. They did an incredible job of navigating through some very rough seas! Pete Walker, Vice President. After the division the club had previously, Pete stepped up to help heal some hard feelings in our club. Pete has done a great job of reaching out to younger members, and standing in for me when I’ve been in Alabama. He will be a great President! Greg Brown, Treasurer. Greg is in the middle of his two year term. Greg has done a masterful job of getting us out of a bind with the IRS we didn’t even know we had. He is also organizing our financial affairs so it will be a much easier job for his successor. He’s a fantastic watch dog of our money. Pam & Larry Clarino, Newsletter Editor (Pam). These two have raised our newsletter from what was a good informative club publication, to what I consider a national-worthy magazine. Content and pictures worthy of any nationally available publication on the news stand. And winners of the Best Newsletter in all of PCA for 2021!!! Amanda Brown, Activities Chair. Along with Amanda, I have to mention Cindy McDaniel. I had talked Cindy into coming back as Activities Chair for 2020/2021. She did an outstanding job up until outside difficulties forced her to give it up. That’s when Amanda saw the need and stepped up. The two of them made the change over seamless. Amanda has done an amazing job hosting our 60th Birthday party, Saturday get togethers, Thursday Happy Hours, and Annual Dinners. I said dinners plural because she had the 2020 dinner all planned before we had to cancel. All that work down the drain. Bob Snider, Membership Chair. Bob has had I think every job on the board at one time or another. He’s a past President as well. Bob has been on top of communicating with all new members, and keeping track of lapsed members, transfers, and everything. Bob is also our longest active member, and therefore holds our Historian roll. Bob and Brigitta make countless trips down the boring I-69 for events from Muncie. Mark Westlake, Randy Faunce, Doug DeArmond, and Stacy Kirk, HPDE. Mark is our DE Chair. Mark, Randy, Doug, and Stacy are the guys that do everything to make our DE’s exist. There are many hours spent leading up to each event, and of course managing the event as it goes. Many of you don’t know that the DE’s our club hosts are really the only way the club makes any money. The money made there funds everything else we do. It’s also our greatest financial risk, and when the signups are coming in slow, these guys really sweat! Last year these guys were able to host the very first fully instructed safe DE in the entire covid country! Jim Legault, Secretary. Jim volunteered for the job that usually nobody wants. He has done an outstanding job of recording our meeting minutes each month, and filling all the rolls required by our board election process. Jim as a Sim Racing driver, also delivers the monthly state of PCA Sim Racing to the club meetings. Jimmy Arata, Fort Wayne Liaison. For MANY years, Jimmy has spent countless hours organizing, hosting, attending, raising up Fort Wayne events, and generally holding the group together. Outside the Indianapolis area, Fort Wayne has our largest group of members. Along with their local events, he and Maureen regularly make the drive down boring I-69 to attend central and southern events. David Weaver, Webmaster. David has spent countless hours working to continuously improve our website. This is no easy task, as this is an ever changing landscape. We enjoy easy signup for events and club information at our fingertips. Absolutely none of this happens by accident, but with a great deal of work and knowledge. These are the people who have worked the last two years to keep our club operating with fun and safe events. Their ideas, effort, and club dedication has enabled us to come through this crazy time stronger than the club has ever been. With that I give you all my thanks, Rob Send your suggestions and comments to CIRPCAPresident@gmail.com |

Mr. Scott Ferguson
On Sunday, Scott Ferguson, a supporter of our club and all things Porsche, passed away. We met Scott and his wife Pam at one of the Tom Wood Porsche events. At that time, he was making the logical transition from Mercedes-Benz to Porsche. He was warm and engaging with a wonderful dry sense of humor. Both Scott and Pam were enthusiastic participants in club activities. They garnered the Alton Dice Award (now Mike Robbins) in 2010 for their attendance at events. Over the years his Porsche ownership has been both varied and always colorful. His cars ranged from a Nordic Gold 911 Turbo to a Geyser Grey 911 50th Anniversary. Probably two of the more interesting were the Special Edition Boxster in Brilliant Orange (nicknamed Great Pumpkin) and a Peridot Green Cayenne GTS (Kermit). And anyone who was there will never forget when they showed up at the Brentlingers’ Rolex 24 Hour Party in robes carrying pillows. For as he said, “After all it’s a 24-hour party”. He was a dear friend and will be missed. For arrangement information please click link: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/indianapolis-in/scott-ferguson-9032363

Congratulations to CIR members Bob and Mary Kovatch won first place at Parade Monday in their concours class. All the more noteworthy, as they drove their beloved “Pickle” all the way from Indy. Pictured in the reviewing stand in front of the hotel, receiving their award. Next stop, Pebble Beach?
Also, congratulations and welcome to new CIR members Todd and Bonnie Jo Griffee for winning the Porsche Parade TSD Rally Wednesday, July 24, 2019. They recently moved to Bloomington from SW Michigan. Amazing! Todd & Bonnie Griffee of Bloomington joined CIR and PCA just two years ago and won Overall at this year’s Porsche Parade TSD Rally at Boca Raton, Florida in their 2005 Boxster! This is an amazing accomplishment, as I understand it, they competed only in last year’s Parade Rally at Spokane, Washington. If you all remember, Dick & Becky Rutkowski of Fort Wayne also won Overall at our French Lick Parade in 2015 using an old “peppermill” Curta Calculator and beat seasoned Parade rallyist using state-of-the-art rally computers. Pretty amazing for a Region that does not do any TSD Rally’s. Hopefully, we can get a photo of them being presented the annual Hoffman (driver) and Woolery (navigator) trophies at Parade and get it in our October CIRcular newsletter and on our website. Their names will be engraved on the perpetual trophies and listed in the Boca Raton Porsche Parade wrap-up issue in Porsche Panorama magazine, probably in October. Congratulations to Todd & Bonnie! Bob Snider, Club Historian
PS: Of note, Todd & Bonnie are shown in the bottom photo with their keeper Rally trophies which were designed by our former PCA Zone 4 Rep, Michael & Lisa Soriano and are a model of the beautiful Waldorf Astoria Boca Raton Resort Hotel, which was Parade Headquarters. Michael is now National Awards Chairman and this is one of the many duties he and Lisa have taken on for our club. Pretty unique trophies and keepsakes! Bob

Thanks to Jim Legault for reaching out to a few his CIRPCA friends in order to make us aware of an opportunity to bring some cheer to 600 Hoosier men and women who will be far from home and family this holiday season. They are the men and women of the Indiana Army National Guard who were deployed to Kuwait earlier this year. The primary effort each year is to ensure that each and every deployed soldier receives a Christmas stocking. Each stocking was handmade by the Indiana Sewing Guild. The stockings were filled with candy, trail mix, jerky, and other goodies (the soldiers can’t get enough of that stuff!) collected by several local 5th grade classes as their annual service project. The kids also make a Christmas card for each soldier and decorated the mailing boxes that the stockings are shipped in. Click to see images of the 38th Infantry Division of the Indiana National Guard with their stockings.
