First Saturday Breakfast August 6, 2022, at By Hand & Fork in Muncie at 9:30 AM

Our First Saturday Breakfast location is at a fairly new place in Muncie called By Hand & Fork, 1617 N. Wheeling Avenue, Muncie, IN 47303.  Getting rave reviews for their varied menu (11 pages!), great food, hearty servings and fast service – they have been featured on Fox 59 and Channel 4 TV Stations in Indianapolis.  Starting at 9:30 AM, we will be seated in their very large rear Patio Room, which will seat 100, is totally enclosed with windows and air-conditioned with a long electric fireplace on the wall!

Famous for their Mimosa Flights made with their fresh-squeezed orange juice (11 different fruit flavors can be added), Bloody Mary’s made with Sake (got to try that one!) and every kind of breakfast and lunch item you’ve ever heard of, By Hand & Fork will certainly be an interesting Breakfast Destination!  Members who went to Ball State University will remember this location as the old Sambo’s in the 70’s & 80’s on North Wheeling Ave., close to campus.  More recently it was known as Eva’s Pancake House.  New local owners bought the restaurant from Eva and really fixed it up, enlightened the menu, and they have been packing them in ever since!  Separate checks arranged.

Other things to do while in Muncie this Saturday:

Minnetrista Museum & Gardens Saturday Farmers Market and the Bob Ross Experience!

After breakfast, venture two blocks south on Wheeling and one block east on Minnetrista Parkway (turn left at the traffic light on Wheeling Ave.) for one of the best Farmers Markets in Indiana, open until noon at Minnetrista!  Freshly picked Indiana sweet corn, tomatoes, vegetables, flowers, local honey, homemade pastries, kettle corn, Rosebud coffee, tea and iced drinks and our favorite, Orebaugh’s Farm Grand Grilling pork burgers (Bring a cooler and take some frozen patties home with you!).  Their adjacent Orchard Shop is open til 5 PM for great original gifts, apples and cold drinks.  Free attendance!  Umbrella tables and chairs in the Courtyard.

Oakhurst Mansion and Garden Tours 8 AM – 8 PM located on the 40-acre Minnetrista Campus of the five former Ball Bros. Homes.  Fully restored original 1895 home of George, Francis and Elizabeth Ball with a very unique varnished wood exterior, beautiful wood-paneled interior and spacious gardens with several walking paths.

Bob Ross Experience at L. L. Ball Home 9 AM – 5 PM.  Visit the original TV studio where Bob Ross’ “The Joy of Painting” PBS TV show was filmed right here in Muncie!  Interactive two-story exhibit.  Requires $15 timed tickets available at the Minnetrista Center Building or online at:  https://www.minnetrista.net

Note:  Minnetrista Experience Tickets are $15/person and include Minnetrista Center Building Exhibits, Oakhurst Mansion and Gardens and Bob Ross Experience:  https://Minnetrista.net

Drive thru the beautiful new Ball State University Campus.  Suggested streets are the new University, Riverside & McKinley Ave. Streetscapes, New Sursa Hall Music Auditorium, new entrance to Emens Auditorium and the Shaffer Bell Tower in the middle of McKinley Ave.  Their Rinard Orchid Greenhouse is another must see along with the adjacent Glick Center for Glass.  All free!  https://www.bsu.edu

Fire Up DWNTWN Muncie!  Saturday, Aug. 6, 1-10 PM.  Downtown Muncie Restaurant, Bar & Entertainment District.  “A Sizzling Street Festival!  Hot air balloons, hot food (ribs, food trucks, etc.), street vendors, contests and live music on three stages on So. Walnut, High & Mulberry Sts. and connecting streets throughout the day.  10 special-shape hot air balloons inflating in parking lots and a 10-balloon 90-minute illumination to music in the early evening, culminating with fireworks by Great Grizzly/Boomers Factory Direct Fireworks.  Free! https://www.DowntownMuncie.org

The other great Muncie news is that the real estate agent that was listing The Neely House, Muncie’s top gourmet restaurant that recently closed, bought the restaurant with everything included and plans to keep it all the same and is going to try to expand the outdoor dining area and continue to have evening garden events.  The original owner/developer, Russell Irving, who spent a small fortune of his own money just four years ago restoring the house and gardens and turned it into an award-winning destination restaurant, is losing his eyesight and could no longer manage the restaurant and wanted the new buyer to try to keep everything the same.  Look for your Porsche Club to return there next spring for a gourmet brunch you won’t want to miss!

Please RSVP by Noon on August 4th below for the breakfast, so we can tell the management how many to set our tables up for.
