Annual Spring Color Auto Tour – April 17, 2021. This year we have decided to only do a one-day auto tour, due to the still lingering Covid-19. We will start in Morristown at 11 AM (19 miles or 1/2 hr. east of I-465 via US 52 E) with an optional, socially-distanced lunch at the famous Kopper Kettle Inn with attendees seated at separate tables in their Terrace Room. Separate checks arranged. Registration opens at Noon (for those not having lunch) with the Driver’s Meeting outside on their large covered patio at 12:30 PM. First car out at 1 PM for a 123-mile 3 – 3 1/2 hr. drive over some of the best sports car roads in Southeastern Indiana, including several historic towns. Optional stop in German Oldenburg (“Town of Spires”) with German street names. The Carriage House Antiques is worth a stop there for all its German merchandize and homemade ice cream made by a sister from the local convent.
Auto Tour ends in Rising Sun on the Ohio River with a bring your own picnic around 4:30 PM. Brigitta and I are not going to stop in Oldenburg, but head on down to Rising Sun early and try to hold the picnic tables at their city picnic shelter and Gazebo (both shown above) for our picnic. Both have 4 picnic tables each with many more picnic tables and park benches scattered along their new nice riverfront promenade, but they cannot be reserved and are all first come, first serve. So, bring chairs just in case. There are new city public restrooms located 1/2 block from the Gazebo on Main St.
Covid-19 Notice: Please wear a mask, even if you have been fully vaccinated, and practice social distancing to protect yourselves and others at all the tour stops. No destination dinner and overnight hotel reservations this year in Cincinnati.
11 AM (optional) Lunch at Kopper Kettle Inn: Saturday Lunch Special: Chicken Salad served on lettuce, homemade chunky apple sauce, potato chips, fresh fruit, fresh muffin, ice cream sundae and glass of champagne – all for only $12.95! You can also order their famous iron skillet fried chicken, but it takes a little longer to prepare.
Tip: Order some of their fried chicken to go (while having lunch) to take to the picnic and bring a cooler!
So far, as of Thursday evening, April 15, we have had 49 confirmed attendees RSVP in 25 cars with 29 for lunch at the Kopper Kettle Inn at 11 AM for a record turnout! See everyone April 17 in Morristown for a great day of touring. Weather forecast is looking good and the flowering trees are all in bloom!
