The President’s Message - Don Shuck, President CIRPCA
September, 2010
Welcome to September and the continuum of the celebration of the first Labor Day observance on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union and the originating organizer, Matthew Maguire. It was originally thought that Peter J. McGuire from the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners was the first to suggest honoring those “who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold.” According to the United States Department of Labor, “Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.” So congratulations to you, the American worker, who added materially to our country achieving the highest standard of living and the greatest production platform the world has ever known.
If you’re not playing your bagpipe on Main Street in Somewhere, Indiana, then spend your Saturday morning on September 4th at the Petite Chou in Clay Terrace, Carmel, IN from 9 to 11 AM with many of your fellow Porsche enthusiasts and laborers. We’ll have much to discuss and share as we realize that there is something to do every weekend with YOUR club. Spend a much better 9/11 with fellow road warriors in Ft. Wayne at Spiro’s starting at 9 AM. I suggest you get there early. They have a large following of dedicated members showing up at all their events and they like to eat – get your order in first. For those in the central Indiana area, we will be participating in the Carmel Artmobilia, also on September 11th. We’re looking to generate some interest in our club activities and membership as our Membership Chair, Geoff Kapke works the crowd.
Bob and Brigitta Snider have set up a snowballing affair in New Harmony, IN for the weekend of September 18th. Don’t stretch your imagination too far with that last sentence since the implication is that we are enjoying a remarkable enthusiasm for this event including Ron Carr, our Zone 4 Regional President and his wife attending from northern Ohio.
Rob Fike has invited all of us to his Third Tech Session of 2010 on September 25th as we gather at Raymond’s Alignment Service in Plainfield at 1:30 PM – and you thought everything was early. If you find yourself shaking going down the road, then get to the ER and find out what’s wrong. If you check out OK then it must be your car and Raymond’s is where you’ll want to get your second opinion.
Make sure your have the Pumpkin Run on your calendar for October 29-31. Wear your favorite costume and bring your fastest car to Putnam Park Road Course for Performance Driver Education, our second for 2010. Looking ahead will bring Larry Haskett’s Winery Tour in October, the Annual Banquet in November and our Holiday Brunch/gift exchange in December.
If we haven’t seen you at any of our events this year what’s holding you back? They’re unbelievably friendly, enjoyable, engaging and without further commitment. Give something a try and see if there just might be several something’s in your future plans. Maybe as a result of that “snowballing” idea.
Meanwhile, have a great day, a better tomorrow and a clear safe road in front of you.
