HELP! My 1985 Carrera will not start using the key in the ignition. I put key in the ignition, I hear the fuel pump going, I hear the fans start, turn the key and the engine does not turn over. I changed the ground strap with a new one and polished all the connections with a Dremel and wire brush and sealed same with an electric connection sealer. Now the fun part -- I hot wired the car at the starter with a momentary test switch and aligator clips, turn the key to run, hit the momentary switch, the car turns over and the car starts right up! Makes me nuts. So it must be electrical somewhere but I can't figure it out. Can it be the ignition switch itself? A loose connection at the switch? A bad connection at the starter even though I cleaned the wires at the starter when I replaced the ground strap? Should I check the connections again? Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

bgcatty

Could it be your DME Relay (Under the drivers seat)?
